Fat Chicken getting ready to run.

Fat Chicken getting ready to run.

*this is a work of fiction based on true events by a Loser who was either bored, didn’t have anything better to do or just procrastinating.

My name is Fat Chicken… and i am a sore Loser. Don’t over analyze. It’s not like it sounds. I’m one of the 11 incredibly competitive and health conscious entities banding together to fight the all consuming  and all powerful body fat. One of the Losers. And right now i am just sore all over. See i ran my first marathon yesterday.

I was never an athletic person. Nor was i ever health conscious in any form. Most of all never outwardly competitive. But since joining Loser, things began to change.

A couple of my fellow losers have beenjoining marathons for quite a while now.  And after several invitations to join the GIG run, including one from Kwuapao as a means to keep my job, i finally gave in… and if i recall correctly, to one of the simplest gestures… a look over the shoulder as she passed by.

“Join the GIG run.”, she said to me. And that was all it took.

I dropped everything and stood up, walked towards the conference room.

Hesitant and arrogant at the same time as i stood amongst the other Losers, i asked for a form.

For two weeks it felt like i signed a death sentence. To my credit i followed the rational side of me and chose to ran the 5k instead of the 10k my arrogant side kept goading me.

The weeks passed by quickly and before i knew it, i was standing along side Choco Binger and J-Rui in a mob of runners. Almost everyone wore the same green sleeveless shirts distributed to all participants of the event.

I realized then… I was lost in a sea of green. And as the timer started to close in on the moment of the run… i began to wonder if i would drown as i was swept by the tide, unable to keep up with everyone else.

Damn this stupid pride. Damn me for being so arrogant. Damn me for not thinking this thru… But she called out to me… and i had to answer.

to be continued…

More and more Losers have jumped onto the running bandwagon for this Sunday’s G.I.G Run at UP! The only ones not present in the photos are Cybilbil + sister and Beached Whale’s wifey. All in all, that makes 13 runners!

We’re all geared up with our race bibs, singlets and other newly purchased paraphernalia (to be covered in another post) and ready to run our thighs off! OK, fine. So maybe Mr. Fingerbottom and Junky Trunk won’t do any actual running but we will in the next one!

For some, this will be a first. For others, their 20-something-th run. But for everyone, it’ll be extra special because we get to do it together. K2, represent!

Nike Running Clinic

Nike Running Clinic | http://www.nikerunning.com.ph

The Losers (well, at least 3 of them) are picking up their pace and pushing themselves to their limits. Last night, Chunky Monkey, Fried Kwapao, and Ninjarapsarap had a not-so-secret training session at the Nike sponsored Running Clinic at ULTRA.

Last night’s program, with the addition of rainfall as a “bonus” challenge, had the Losers doing rounds on the track, stretching, and drills. Since it was Chunky Monkey and Fried Kwapao’s first time to join the run clinic (Ninjarapsarap is a delinquent student), they were asked to do time trials for their individual assessments

Ninjarapsarap says: I missed running at the clinic. I love, love, love running in the rain. Sana a stray ball (there were people playing football on the field) roll towards me, so I can kick it back. SANA I can still kick. I miss football. Sigh.

Chunky Monkey says: How the hell can Ninjarap and Kwapao chat while running? Breathe. Run. Breathe. Run… Ooh, rain. I feel like a professional athlete. Swish, swoosh, swing my wet hair out of my eyes…

Fried Kwapao says: I already ran this morning, so why am I running again now? ‘Coz I’m a running addict and super competitive, that’s why. Oops, did I just say that out loud? Oh, hey, I just realized, I’m not a solo runner after all. I made a new friend (at the run clinic). Hey, waitaminute, I can’t let him outrun me! Gotta run!

These losers had a great time. Not to mention the calories they lost and the accomplishment they gained. To the rest of the Losers, they’re 1 training run ahead of you guys na. Get ready to eat their dust on Sunday’s run!

The Nike Running Clinic is held at 7 P.M. on Tuesdays at ULTRA, Pasig and on Fridays at Bonifacio High Street, Fort Bonifacio (in front of the Nike flagship store).
